Where the name comes from
التقنية… تيسيراً
Tisira (say it tee-SEE-ra) comes from tasirt (ⵜⴰⵙⵉⵔⵜ), the Amazigh hand quern: two round stones, the lower one still, the upper one turning on a pivot through its eye. Grain goes in at the centre and comes out as flour. In Amazigh homes the quern turned to the rhythm of song, and in 1975 the Kabyle singer Taos Amrouche put songs of the quern on record. In Arabic, تيسيرا reads as تيسيراً: making things easy.
In Tifinagh, the letter ⵙ (s) is a circle with a dot at its centre: a quern seen from above. Our logo starts there. The saffron peg is the handle, the hand that turns the stone.
